Later this week, M. Night Shyamalan is releasing a new movie called The Visit. And it’s actually pretty great. Scary, unpredictable, kind of like the movies that made him a household name. It’s unlike The Happening, the movie that almost killed his career.
Released in 2008, The Happening stars Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Deschanel as a married couple who find themselves in the middle of...something. Something weird is happening, people are dying, and they try to figure it out. Unlike the best of Shyamalan’s work, though, The Happening is all over the place. Weird performances, unintentional humor, odd asides, and when the mystery is solved, it’s not just stupid - it’s almost enraging.
With the knowledge there’s a good new Shyamalan movie out later this week, the team at ScreenJunkies have decided to make The Happening into an Honest Trailer. It’s funny, awkward, all the things The Happening is, but this time for the right reasons.
