Disney’s CEO has confirmed that another standalone Star Wars film is on the way in a couple of years. We’ve got Logan coming out in 2017, Game of Thrones could get a prequel show, and the Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is being turned into its own five-film franchise. So, what spinoff should be next?
After Rogue One, the untitled Han Solo film, and a couple main Star Wars titles come out, we’ll get a brand-new Star Wars story coming out around 2020. It was originally speculated to be a Boba Fett spinoff, directed by Josh Trank, but he and Lucasfilm have parted ways. That means there’s a whole realm of possibility for the next standalone *Star Wars* film.
I’d personally love to see the story of a youngling academy, before the Clone Wars.Star Wars has such a rich and vibrant history that extends long before the events of The Phantom Menace, and it’d be great to explore the stories of those who came before the conflict. We could even have a film that stars a non-human lead. It’s working for Planet of the Apes.
There are so many exciting franchises that could split off in unique directions. The Marvel Cinematic Universe could dive into origin stories of more obscure characters, or DC could bring some of its television stars to the big screen in their own stories. Of course, there are those who are tired of established series being constantly split off into other money-making franchises, and that’s understandable. After all, even Will Smith himself seems tired of all the “nostalgia” dictating what gets made. We literally talked about it earlier today!
In that case, let us know if there’s an untold story you’ve been dying to see on the big screen, perhaps from a long-ignored book, film, or TV show that deserves to be brought back from the abyss.
