SyFy’s big transmedia flagship show Defiance won’t be returning for a fourth season, according to Variety. The cancellation of the show comes just days after Dominion was also cancelled.
Defiance was developed by Rockne S. O’Bannon, Kevin Murphy, and Michael Taylor, and depicted a quasi-transformed Earth after the arrival of a number of alien species arrived. The show centered on the adventures of Joshua Nolan, a sheriff in the town of Defiance (formerly St. Louis).
SyFy developed the show alongside a major MMO video game that crossed over with the show and allowed players to explore the larger world. While the show might be ending, the world will continue to exist. According to Polygon, Trion Games will continue to run as a free-to-play game.
