Another old television show is being dusted off and given a new life: CBS announced that they’re rebooting MacGuyver with Furious 7 director James Wan slated to direct the pilot. Color us interested.
According to CBS (via EW), the new MacGuyver will be a revised concept, rather than any sort of continuation of the existing show:
A reimagining of the television series of the same name, following a 20-something MacGyver as he gets recruited into a clandestine organization where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters from happening.
CBS has had quite a bit of success with another ‘80s reboot, Hawaii Five-0, which was given a sixth season earlier this year, and a number of other shows, such as X-Files and Twin Peaks, will be returning to the airwaves in the coming months. This makes a lot of sense: there’s already a sort of brand awareness of the franchise, and it’s something that’s easier to push through than an original property.
James Wan had been trying to make a feature film about the character as early as 2011, and earlier this year, a crowdsourced competition looked to reimagine the titular character as a woman.
