Valiant's Fangirl Superhero Is Finally Getting Her Own Comic

Ever since Valiant relaunched in 2012, fans have been dying to know whether Zephyr—better known by her real identity as the nerdy sci-fi superfan Faith Herbert—would join in on the fun and get her own comic book. Well, good news, Valiant readers: It’s finally happening!

As revealed today by Comic Book Resources, Faith, written by Jody Houser with art from Francis Portela and Marguerite Sauvage, will be the hero’s first-ever solo series—it’s about Faith hitting out on her own, after her time with the Harbinger Renegades and Unity in Harbinger Wars, Unity and Armor Hunters.

The series is aimed at being a more lighthearted entry in Valiant’s lineup, as Faith starts a new life for herself in Los Angeles, while investigating an alien conspiracy in her Superhero persona Zephyr—using her power of flight and psionics to kick butt, and liberally quote from the works of Joss Whedon.

Part of what made Faith/Zephyr such a fun hero in Valiant’s Harbinger series was her supremely nerdy nature, and all the joy she took in being a superhero fan who was also actually a superhero. With Sauvage being brought in specifically to draw fantastical panels representing Faith’s daydreaming fantasies (usually about being a superhero), it sounds like Faith will keep all the light-hearted side of the character, while giving her a moment in the spotlight at last. Considering she’s one of the coolest additions Valiant have made to their universe in recent history, it should be a lot of fun—and hopefully it’ll spin off a bit further beyond its current 4-issue remit.

Faith #1 will be out in January 2016.
