Even if you don’t know the name “Craig Drake,” odds are you recognize his style. The artist spent a good chunk of his early career at Lucasfilm and the company still uses his designs today. Now, Drake has a book of his posters on the way and we’ve got an exclusive first look.
The Hero Complex Gallery will release Craig Drake Vol. 1 in mid-October, featuring 73 glossy pages of Drake’s posters from the last several years.
His Patrick Nagel-influenced style is minimalist but striking. Drake takes only the best parts of his subject, forgets about the rest, and makes them pop by putting them on stark, simple backgrounds. The results speak for themselves.
Here are just a few pages from the book, which is currently available for pre-order and will be at New York Comic-Con.
Full disclosure, I’m a monster Drake collector, fan, and penned the introduction to this book. I also contributed a few of the entries. However, I have no monetary involvement. Just a desire to spread the art of a crazy awesome artist.
