Watch an Ex-Animator Rediscover His Passion Over 100 Days

When Vimeo user Justgoscha became disillusioned with his life as a front-end developer, he decided to rekindle something that made him happy in his younger years—animation.

So every day for 100 days, he resolved to draw what those in the game call a walk cycle—a short loop of a character simply moving—and the results are beautiful.

What scales are to a musician, a walk cycle is to an animator, and the way a character looks in motion can be used to suggest all sorts of things about mood, weight, and intention. Justgoscha was inspired by a Nicholas Cage-themed Medium post and the works of Hayao Miyazaki, and his video allows us to enjoy his loops in a fraction of the time it took him to make them.

Read his full Medium post if you’re in need of a creative kick in the ass. I, for one, am going to be booting up Logic this weekend and putting some time into writing songs again.
