If you’re a pop culture collector, there’s no shortage of art from Lucasfilm’s two biggest properties: Star Wars and Indiana Jones. But now two of the biggest companies in the game, Mondo and Acme Archives, are teaming up to bring you even more, and these pieces look fantastic.
The first piece is out this week. It’s called “Red-5" by Mike Mitchell, an addition to his Portrait series.
This piece, a 12 x 16 inch giclee, will be available in a timed edition for 72 hours starting on Thursday, March 17, at this link.
If you’re unsure why this is so exciting, it’s pretty simple—Mondo’s artists are some of the best and most collectable in the pop culture community. They include Olly Moss, Tyler Stout, Martin Ansin, Ken Taylor, Aaron Horkey and more. Some of those guys have done Star Wars pieces before, but even less of them have done Indiana Jones, so this is a heck of an opportunity for them and for us. Plus, you may have heard something about a new Star Wars movie that came out recently? Wouldn’t it be awesome for Moss and Stout, artists who’ve already done their own legendary posters for the Star Wars Trilogy, to do The Force Awakens? I get weak at the knees at the thought.
Then there’s Acme, who consistently put out some of the most beautiful, underrated art on the internet. For example, check out these two pieces by Brian Rood that just went on sale (these are not in conjunction with Mondo, but are a great representation of Acme’s work):
You can find out more about those pieces at these links: Bloodline and Where There Is.
Oh, and this part of the press release is equally interesting: “As part of the Mondo-Acme relationship, fans can also expect limited-edition products from their favorite DreamWorks Animation properties, The X-Files and more.”
We’ll have much, much more from Mondo and Acme’s Star Wars and Indiana Jones line in the future. Our wallets shudder at the possibilities.
