AMC Is Bringing The Terror To TV Screens As An Anthology Show

AMC has greenlit Dan Simmons’ novel The Terror as a 10-episode anthology series, with plans to release the series in 2017.

According to Deadline, the series is a joint project from Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions, Alexandra Milchan’s Emjag Productions, Entertainment 360 and AMC Studios, and will be written by David Kajganich.

The story is a fictionalized account of the Franklin Expedition in 1845, during which the HMS Erebus and HMS Terror were lost. (The wreck of the Erebus was discovered in 2014). In Simmons’ novel, Franklin and his crew face numerous challenges after both ships are wrecked, and are plagued by starvation, scurvy, mutiny and cannibalism, all the while they’re stalked by a monster.

The series has been in development since 2013, and it seems that we’ll finally get to see it before too long. What’s interesting about this project is how it’s being billed as an ‘anthology’ show - like True Detective or American Horror Story, we’re guessing that this will be a self-contained season or a miniseries. Either way, we’re pumped.
