For years, fans have speculated and asked the filmmakers behind Back to the Future if they’d ever do a follow-up. Thankfully, they’ve almost always said “No.” But one fan has another idea. A prequel. And he’s already cut the trailer for it.
Editor Tyler Hopkins has created a fan trailer for something he calls 1.21 Gigawatts. Now you’re probably wondering, “What the hell is a gigawatt?” Well, it’s the story of how Dr. Emmett Brown was able to get the plutonium necessary to power his DeLorean. Plutonium that made 1.21 gigawatts of energy possible.
Hopkins mixes footage of multiple Christopher Lloyd performances (Back to the Future, My Favorite Martian, Camp Nowhere, Things to Do in Denver When You’re Dead, Dennis the Menace) along with several films on terrorism and espionage (Zero Dark Thirty, Argo, The Sum of All Fears, Syriana, Iron Man, Munich) to tease a film that sees the Doc travel to the Middle East to make the connections necessary to get the substance. It’s a super fun idea, executed really, really well. Check it out.
