Todd McFarlane Finally Gives an Update on His Spawn Movie

Jesse Eisenberg discusses playing the villain in Batman v Superman. The next xXx loses one action star but gains another. Get a look at the return of the Lone Gunmen on The X-Files. Plus, teasers for the finale of Agent Carter, and a new clip from Zootopia. Spoilers now!

Spawn

Speaking to Comicbook.com at this weekend’s New York Toy Fair, Todd McFarlane offered an extensive update on his long-in-the-works plans to adapt his comic book anti-hero Spawn for the big screen. First, an update on the script:

I’ve finished the script, and I’m in the process of editing. It’s 183 pages, and [producers] usually like 120. I still think it’s going to end up being about 140, because I’m putting in details for myself.

And then, how the movie will approach Spawn himself:

I’d put it more into horror/suspense/supernatural genre. If you take the movie The Departed meets Paranormal Activity, something like that.

In the background, there’s this thing moving around, this boogeyman. That boogeyman just happens to be something that you and I, intellectually, know is Spawn. Will he look like he did in the first movie? No. Will he have a supervillain he fights? No. He’s going to be the spectre, the ghost.

I think they all work because there’s only one thing in the movie that’s not normal. There’s not five things, there’s one thing that’s the boogeyman. So that’ll be Spawn. He’s this thing that just whooshes in, this ghost that moves and will fuck you up if you’re in the wrong place in the wrong time, and the rest of the movie will look real, and be this real drama. He’s just this ghost, this thing behind it.

Batman v Superman

Jesse Eisenberg talks to Playboy about what sets his Lex Luthor apart from the comics and past interpretations:

The character is in line with what audiences want to see now, which is a more modern, psychologically realistic concept of Lex Luthor. His motivations are multifaceted; he has a way of using language that’s specific to the way his mind works; he struggles with interesting philosophical dilemmas like that of the individual having too much power, even if that individual is using that power for good.

And sourcing inspiration from the source material:

The previous movies are interesting to watch, but they feel unrelated. This incarnation of the character is drawn so differently. I’d read the comic books, but I figured out pretty quickly there’s not much there that relates to an acting role; it’s just a different format. You know the old joke about actors — if you’re playing the messenger, you think it’s a play about the messenger — but the main characters are wonderful as well.

Pop Sugar spoke to Dan Amboyer—who plays a drone pilot, purportedly called Lieutenant Christie, but has been frequently rumored as actually playing Hal Jordan, aka the Green Lantern—about the rumors and working on the film:

PS: There are a lot of superhero cameos in this movie, from Doomsday to Wonder Woman; do you know if there’s going to be any other superheroes?

DA: It’s hard for me to keep up with what’s officially been announced, but yes, there are some other possibilities.

PS: Now, there’s been a lot of speculation, but are you able to tell me more about your character?

DA: I can’t. They told me I couldn’t say anything.

PS: Hasn’t a name been released though?

DA: Oh, yes. It does appear, but it’s kind of an undercover thing. The name appears on me at one point.

Entertainment Weekly have revealed a first look at the Lone Gunmen ahead of their return in tonight’s episode, with Chris Carter teasing how the killed-off characters could return:

When you’re dead on the X-Files, you’re never necessarily gone. There are ways to bring people back in dream sequences, flashbacks, and the like. This was an opportunity to use them, and bring them back to the show, in what is a presumed psychedelic hallucination.
