We’ve known for a while
Included in a report from Deadline that Goldsman will pen Transformers 5 was the news that Ant-Man re-writers Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari have been tapped to write the first spinoff film: an animated movie detailing the origins of the Autobots and the Decepticons on their homeworld of Cybertron.
No other movies from the team—which aside from Goldsman, Barrer and Ferrari includes Robert Kirkman, Zak Penn, Jeff Pinkner, Christina Hodson, Lindsey Beer, Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, Ken Nolan, Geneva Robertson, and Steven S. DeKnight—were announced, but Deadline further added that out of the nine movies pitched by the group, producer Steven Spielberg saw potential in five of the ideas, so they may turn up in the future.
But for now, the Transformers are heading back to their roots in animation as well as their Cybertronian origins. Will the Bayverse work in an animated movie? We’ll have to wait a while to find out.
