Oldboy's Director Park Chan-wook Is Set To Adapt Japanese Novel Genocidal Organ

This is pretty cool news: the Korean director of Oldboy, Park Chan-wook, is looking to adapt Project Itoh’s 2007 novel Genocidal Organ.

Here’s the description of the book:

The war on terror exploded, literally, the day Sarajevo was destroyed by a homemade nuclear device. The leading democracies transformed into total surveillance states, and the developing world has drowned under a wave of genocides. The mysterious American John Paul seems to be behind the collapse of the world system, and it’s up to intelligence agent Clavis Shepherd to track John Paul across the wreckage of civilizations, and to find the true heart of darkness—a genocidal organ.

This looks like it could be a really neat film. Given the relative critical success of another Japanese science fiction novel, All You Need Is Kill, which was turned into Edge of Tomorrow, seeing more Japanese science fiction novels turned into films would be a trend we could get behind. (We’d love to see Gene Mapper turned into a film)
