Now that The Force Awakens has hit theaters, Lucasfilm has started slowly revealing a treasure trove of concept art for the film, giving us a look at how The Force Awakens evolved visually over the course of its production. Most of the beautiful work has been collected in The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but here’s a ton of great pieces that have made their way to the internet.
And here’s your now mandatory warning when it comes to Star Wars talk: Some of the images below might be considered as mild spoilers, so while there’s nothing major, if you’re still waiting to see the movie, you might want to skip!
Buzzfeed kicked off the reveals with a huge gallery of images—head to the link to see plenty more, but here’s a handful of images, starting with initial designs for Han’s new jacket:
Han Solo’s Cockpit Jacket, Glyn Dillon
Imperial Rally, Yanick Dusseault
Alt Kira (Rey), Iain McCaig
BB-8 Face, Christian Alzmann
Wired had a similarly humongous look at the book—head on over to see the full gallery:
Ruin Set Paintovers, Thom Tenery
Princess Leia Fatigues, Glyn Dillon
Desert Destroyer, Doug Chiang
Stormtrooper Concept, Christian Alzmann
Not all the concept art has come directly from The Art of Force Awakens—some is from Star Wars Card Trader, the collectible trading card app, which released a series of concept art cards to celebrate the launch of the movie last week. Here’s a few of the cards, via StarWars.com—once again, you can find more over on the site.
